MUSIC REVIEW

SONG: FIRE DANCE
ARTIST: Aguike also known as ALLAh BAMA
GENRE: AFROBEATS, AFRO SOUL, WORLD, RHUMBA, POP, DANCE

LABEL: INDIE

In Fire Dancer, Aguike puts everything on the line and brilliantly executes a track masterpiece with all the ingredients of a seminal contemporary Afrobeats-pop song. Enchanting chorus lines, artful lead vocals, exotic rhumba-influenced guitar feels, and an enigmatic love story complete with contemporary social media language, realities, and peculiarities are all present in this track.

These days, if a love affair doesn’t begin, cross over to, or get a mention on Twitter, Facebook, Tik Tok, Tinder, or Instagram, then it’s probably a bit old-fashioned. Aguike perceptively demonstrates how central these new media platforms have become to romance and he captured it all in this epic song. It’s sheer artistry.

Fire Dance is a romantic musical epilogue and commentary complete with current social media realities and intrigues as they affect the love game today. It is Aguike’s ode to an obsessive love that has swept him off his feet.

The beautifully delivered choruses are award-winning and exceptionally soulful:
“You dey scatter my head
You dey scatter my head o…”
Ara ra, Ara ra.. ”

Aguike, allah Bama
Aguike, allah Bama

This Nigerian street-wise lingo means your love is driving me crazy.

Fire Dance is an artful excursion in sentimental lyricism, opening with lush, soulful rhumba-styled sounding guitars that make it a big, lay back, and listen kind of track. However, it will also do well on dance floors with its steady tempo.

The enigmatic dancer and subject of the song trends on all social media platforms and loves to dance to Aguike’s music, which is why she scatters his head.

The sweet, soulful call and response choruses are spread across this big track. A quick rap verse spices up the narrative of the qualities of the enigmatic Fire Dancer lady who’s the subject of this banger.

Summarily, the lady in the song is a great dancer and has captured Aguike’s heart with her fire dance, scattering his brain with her dance moves when she hears his song. It’s a big love story.

Fire Dance overall is vintage Afro-soul, pop, rhumba, and afrobeat with nicely executed rap lines and sung verses, all spiced up with enchanting rhumba-flavored guitars. The contemporariness of the lyrical language is commendably creative.

Aguike’s ability to capture contemporary social media language realities and idiosyncrasies in romance today through song format is pure artistry. The incorporation of conversational terminologies from major Nigerian languages and pidgin language adds a unique touch to the song, showcasing a potpourri of soul, style, and musical artistry.

Fire Dance is an assured three minutes of a musical pleasure ride, listed on the highly anticipated “WANYA WANYA” album.
